Campstove Review - MSR Pocket Rocket

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

MSR Pocket Rocket - 2015

5 out of 5 Stars

Most of my purchase decisions for backpacking gear have been budget conscious buys. For this purchase I went straight to the top rated stove. It was $45 in 2015, and that price appears to be holding for the Pocket Rocket 2.

My coffee is ready for brewing as I wait for my MSR to boil my water.

This stove does everything I need a stove to do. It is small, light, and easy to use. I'm able to pack it, along with my lighter and spoon, inside the cup I use for coffee or tea. That cup fits inside the Stanley cup I use to boil water.

The design of the stove is supposed to allow it to work in windy conditions. I've used this on top of a bald with a decent breeze, and it did perform, but it took a bit longer to boil the water. Without a breeze this thing boils water very fast.

You can purchase camping stoves for less than $20 at Walmart and on Amazon. This is one area I did not mind spending some extra money. MSR makes quality gear.

Note. I am budget conscious in all backpacking gear purchases. My reviews are based upon multiple uses, spanning months or years.
